First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 9 times
Summary
This study compared two methods for controlling pain after major abdominal surgery: injecting morphine into the spinal fluid (intrathecal morphine) versus a newer nerve block technique (M-TAPA) that numbs the abdominal wall. 56 adults participated. The goal was to see which method reduces pain and the need for additional opioids more effectively, while also having fewer side effects.
