Back surgery breakthrough? new injection aims to slash painkiller use

NCT ID NCT07291388

Summary

This study is testing if a specific type of nerve block injection can help patients use fewer strong opioid painkillers after major back surgery. 44 adults having lumbar spine fusion will be randomly assigned to receive either the real pain-blocking injection or a placebo (saltwater) injection before their operation. Researchers will measure how much pain medication patients need, their pain levels, and their overall recovery quality in the first three days after surgery.
