Nerve block eases pain after heart surgery, study finds

Summary

This study tested a nerve block (intertransverse process block) given before heart surgery to see if it reduces pain afterward. 76 adults having planned coronary artery bypass grafting took part. Half received the nerve block and half a placebo. The researchers measured pain scores and opioid use in the first 24 hours after surgery.
