First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 18, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tested a personalized approach to help patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) come off a breathing machine (ventilator). The strategy used daily checks and chose the best method to test breathing based on each patient's risk factors, like obesity or heart disease. The goal was to see if this personalized plan could reduce the need for re-intubation and improve survival. The study involved 691 adults who were ready to start breathing on their own.
