MRI may spare cirrhosis patients from painful scope procedure

NCT ID NCT07450651

First seen Mar 13, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a special MRI scan can safely rule out high-risk varices (enlarged veins that can bleed) in people with hepatitis B-related cirrhosis. Currently, doctors use an invasive endoscopy to check for these varices. The goal is to develop a noninvasive MRI-based model that could reduce the need for endoscopy. The study will include 150 adults with compensated cirrhosis who have already had both an endoscopy and an MRI.
