New stool test could cut unnecessary colonoscopies

NCT ID NCT07471490

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study checks if a new stool test can better tell the difference between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) compared to current tests. About 300 adults and teens will give a stool sample and have a colonoscopy as part of their regular care. If the test works well, it might help some people avoid unnecessary colonoscopies in the future.
