Heart attack diagnosis revolution? new method could save lives

NCT ID NCT06570759

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 37 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to diagnose heart attacks by focusing on whether a major artery is completely blocked (occlusion) rather than the current method based on ECG changes. Researchers will compare outcomes in 6,000 patients to see if the new approach leads to better survival and fewer hospital readmissions. The goal is to identify patients with hidden blockages who need immediate artery-opening procedures.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Early PCI (a procedure to open blocked heart arteries)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a more accurate way to diagnose heart attacks, ensuring patients with blocked arteries get faster, life-saving treatment.

What could go wrong

This is a large but early-stage diagnostic study. The new method may not prove better than the current standard, and results may not apply to all hospitals or patients.

Conditions

The condition(s) this trial relates to.

acute coronary syndrome acute myocardial infarction disease myocardial infarction myocardial ischemia
