First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether giving people real-time feedback on their brain activity (neurofeedback) helps them better regulate emotions. 21 adults with anxiety disorders like social anxiety or panic disorder participated. They used brain scans to see and control their prefrontal cortex activity while learning to reframe negative thoughts. The goal was to understand which brain areas are involved in emotion regulation, not to provide a treatment.
