First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tested whether neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) can prevent muscle wasting in 22 ICU patients on mechanical ventilation. Participants received NMES sessions for at least 7 days, and their thigh muscles were measured with ultrasound. The goal was to see if this therapy helps maintain muscle size and quality during critical illness.
