First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested if using gentle electrical pulses on the thigh muscles could help prevent muscle wasting in 22 adults on breathing machines in the ICU. Patients were split into two groups: one received the electrical stimulation for at least 7 days, the other did not. Researchers used ultrasound to measure muscle changes, aiming to see if this simple technique could preserve strength.
