New exercise method aims to help ICU patients sit up faster

NCT ID NCT07584564

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a specific type of exercise, called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), can improve trunk control in ICU patients who have developed muscle weakness. About 58 adults who have been in the ICU for at least 48 hours will be randomly assigned to receive either PNF exercises or standard physical therapy. The goal is to see if PNF helps patients achieve better sitting balance and trunk stability, which are important milestones for recovery.
