Summary

This study looks at why young adults born very preterm (before 32 weeks) often don't get fitter from aerobic exercise. Researchers think early birth may damage mitochondria, the energy factories in cells, by missing a key fuel switch. They will compare mitochondrial DNA and fitness changes in 60 inactive adults (born preterm vs. full-term) after an exercise program to find markers that could lead to future treatments.
