New study tests Low-Cost way to help veterans quit smoking and drinking

Summary
This study tests a program called MINDSET for veterans with chronic conditions like heart disease or diabetes who smoke or drink too much. Participants receive a mailed packet with personalized health information and a brief motivational phone call. The goal is to see if this approach increases their readiness to change their habits compared to usual care. About 270 veterans will take part.
