Summary
This study tested whether giving metoprolol, an FDA-approved beta-blocker, right after surgery and during hospital recovery can reduce heart damage in people with coronary artery disease. Researchers monitored daily blood tests for heart injury markers in 72 patients aged 50 and older. The goal was to see if this common drug could lower the risk of heart complications following non-cardiac surgery.
