Common heart drug tested as shield against Post-Surgery cardiac injury

NCT ID NCT03138603

Summary

This study tested whether giving the common heart medication metoprolol right after surgery and for a few days in the hospital could reduce heart-related injuries in patients with coronary artery disease. It involved 72 patients who were not already taking similar medications. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either metoprolol or a placebo (inactive substance) to see which group had fewer heart complications.
