First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looked at whether metformin, a common diabetes medicine, can help prevent atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) from coming back after a heart ablation procedure. Researchers enrolled 117 people with a BMI over 25 who were scheduled for ablation. Participants either received metformin or no additional treatment, plus standard lifestyle advice. The goal was to see if metformin could reduce the chance of irregular heart rhythms returning within a year after the procedure.
