First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looked at whether metformin, a common diabetes medication, can reduce the return of irregular heartbeats in people with atrial fibrillation who undergo a heart procedure called ablation. 117 participants were randomly assigned to receive metformin or no additional treatment, and all received standard lifestyle advice. The goal was to see if metformin helps keep the heart in normal rhythm for up to a year after the procedure.
