AI listens to arteries: new algorithm aims to cut diagnostic errors

NCT ID NCT02932176

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study aims to create a smart computer program that helps doctors better understand the sounds from a handheld device used to check blood flow in arteries. Many doctors have little training in using this device, which can lead to mistakes or delays in diagnosing problems like blocked arteries or wounds. Researchers will collect sound recordings from 180 patients and compare the program's analysis to standard tests. No extra procedures are needed, and the goal is to eventually make the tool available as a smartphone app.
