Could a lower dose of this antibiotic be safer and just as effective?

NCT ID NCT04851015

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether a lower dose of the antibiotic TMP-SMX works as well as the standard dose for treating a serious lung infection called PCP in people with weakened immune systems. The standard dose often causes severe side effects like liver injury or kidney failure. The trial will compare the lower dose to the standard dose in 416 adults to see if it reduces side effects without affecting survival or recovery.
