First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving a low dose of magnesium sulfate during lumbar spine surgery can reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers afterward. Sixty adults undergoing back surgery received either magnesium or a placebo. The goal was to see if magnesium, which blocks certain pain signals in the nervous system, could improve recovery and shorten hospital stays.
