Milk protein could help protect obese moms and babies from anemia

NCT ID NCT04810546

Summary

This small study tested whether a safe, low-cost supplement called bovine lactoferrin (a protein found in milk) could help prevent iron deficiency anemia in obese pregnant women. Researchers enrolled 23 women to see if taking the supplement daily was practical and acceptable, and to explore early signs of whether it improved iron levels for mothers and their babies. The goal was to find a better way to support iron health in this high-risk group, where standard iron pills may not work as well.
