Milk protein tested to fight anemia in High-Risk pregnancies

NCT ID NCT04810546

Summary

This small study tested whether taking a daily supplement called bovine lactoferrin (a protein found in milk) is a practical and acceptable way to help prevent iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women with obesity. Researchers enrolled 23 women to see if they could stick with the supplement routine and to gather early clues about its effects on iron levels and inflammation. The goal was to see if this safe, low-cost approach could be a useful strategy for a group at higher risk for pregnancy complications related to anemia.
