Ketone supplement tested to boost cycling endurance
NCT ID NCT07224282
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether adding a ketone supplement to a carbohydrate drink helps trained cyclists ride longer before fatigue sets in. Fifteen healthy cyclists aged 18-55 will do intense cycling tests, taking either the ketone drink or a plain carb drink. Researchers will measure time to fatigue, blood lactate, and ketone levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- R-1,3-Butanediol (ketone supplement) with carbohydrate beverage
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a way for athletes to improve endurance and delay fatigue during high-intensity exercise.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early-phase trial with only 15 people, so results may not apply broadly. The supplement might not improve performance or could cause stomach discomfort.
