New study explores nitric oxide as a breath of fresh air for COPD patients

NCT ID NCT04231760

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study looks at whether breathing in nitric oxide can improve how well the lungs exchange oxygen during exercise in people with mild to moderate COPD. Researchers will measure lung blood vessel function and breathing efficiency in 80 participants (40 with COPD and 40 healthy volunteers). The goal is to understand why COPD patients feel breathless during exercise and find better ways to help them exercise longer.
