Could a simple blood test replace the long meal test for type 1 diabetes?
NCT ID NCT01747967
First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 39 times
Summary
This study looked for simpler ways to measure how many insulin-making cells are left in people with type 1 diabetes. The current test is a long, 3-hour meal test that is not very sensitive. Researchers checked if immune cells in the blood could serve as a better marker. 156 children and adults with type 1 diabetes took part to see if these immune markers match the results of the standard test.
