Scientists track why ICU survivors struggle to recover strength
NCT ID NCT03753412
Summary
This study aims to understand why some patients develop severe muscle weakness after surviving a life-threatening heart or lung failure that required advanced life support (ECMO) in the ICU. Researchers will observe 100 adult patients to identify what factors affect their physical recovery and quality of life after leaving the hospital. The study involves measuring muscle size and strength, collecting blood and urine samples, and tracking how well patients can return to normal activities.
