Could a zap to the brain's master gland ease cancer pain?

NCT ID NCT06287515

First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests whether a precise radiation dose to the pituitary gland (hypophysectomy) can safely reduce severe cancer pain that hasn't responded to standard treatments like opioids. About 40 adults with advanced cancer and hard-to-control pain will receive this one-time, non-invasive procedure. The main goal is to check for side effects and see if pain improves.
