Scientists probe why HIV drugs cause weight gain

NCT ID NCT05652478

Summary

This study aims to understand how two common HIV medications affect the body's energy use and metabolism, which may explain why some people taking these drugs gain weight. Researchers will compare the effects of dolutegravir (an integrase inhibitor) and tenofovir alafenamide in 120 healthy volunteers. Participants will stay in a clinic twice for 11 days each, take one of the drugs for 8 days during each stay, and undergo detailed tests in a special room that measures their body's energy expenditure.
