New combo may ease hip surgery pain and cut opioid use

NCT ID NCT07316166

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether adding dexmedetomidine to a standard numbing medicine (ropivacaine) in a nerve block can improve pain relief after hip replacement surgery. About 120 adults having hip surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard nerve block or the one with the added medicine. The goal is to see if the combination delays the need for extra painkillers and reduces overall opioid use.
