New eye camera reveals hidden details of vision loss

NCT ID NCT01866371

First seen May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study uses a special camera to take extremely detailed pictures of the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Researchers want to see how individual cells differ between healthy eyes and eyes with diseases like Stargardt's or age-related macular degeneration. Up to 600 people aged 7 and older will have their retinas imaged non-invasively to help improve detection and understanding of these conditions.
