Scientists map gut bugs to unlock IBS mysteries

NCT ID NCT07517029

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at the gut microbiome (the bacteria living in your intestines) in 315 people to understand why some develop long-term irritable bowel syndrome after an infection. Researchers will compare those with post-infectious IBS to healthy people and those who recovered without IBS. The goal is to find specific bacterial patterns linked to symptoms, which could lead to better treatments in the future.
