Gut-Healing diet may boost brain and muscle recovery after ICU

NCT ID NCT06020703

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether a diet rich in fermented foods (like yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut) is tolerable and can improve quality of life for people who survived a critical illness, including severe COVID-19. The goal is to help restore gut health and reduce inflammation, which may ease mental, cognitive, and muscle problems. About 40 participants will try the diet for several weeks while researchers track gut bacteria and inflammation markers.
