Brain's plumbing checked by MRI in fluid disorder study

NCT ID NCT06857136

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This observational study looked at 29 people with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and a group of healthy older adults. Researchers used a special MRI technique called DTI-ALPS to see if the brain's glymphatic system—which clears waste—is impaired in NPH. They also tested whether this MRI measure could predict who would benefit from a spinal tap or shunt surgery. The study did not test any new treatment, but aimed to improve diagnosis and patient selection for surgery.
