Gene hunt aims to prevent deadly clots after hip, knee surgery
NCT ID NCT03275610
First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study is looking for genetic clues that might explain why some people develop a dangerous blood clot in the lung (pulmonary embolism) after hip or knee replacement surgery. Researchers will collect blood samples from 100 adults who have had this complication in the past and analyze their DNA for specific genetic markers. The goal is to use this information in future studies to better identify patients at high risk, so doctors can tailor blood-thinning treatments to reduce both clot and bleeding risks.
