Scientists infuse FODMAPs directly into colon to uncover IBS clues

NCT ID NCT06488534

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looked at how FODMAPs (certain carbs that can cause gas and bloating) affect the movement of the large intestine in 15 healthy volunteers. Each person had three colonoscopies where a small tube was placed to measure colon pressures and deliver FODMAPs directly. The goal was to understand the link between these foods and symptoms like cramps and bloating, which may help explain Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
