Scientists infuse FODMAPs directly into colon to uncover IBS clues

NCT ID NCT06488534

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at how certain carbohydrates (FODMAPs) affect movement in the large intestine and cause symptoms in 15 healthy volunteers. Each person had three colonoscopies where a small tube measured colon pressures and delivered FODMAPs directly. The goal was to understand the link between FODMAPs and gut symptoms, which may help explain Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
