Groundbreaking fetal surgery aims to save babies with severe abdominal defect

NCT ID NCT05704257

First seen Mar 08, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests if a special surgery before birth can safely repair a severe birth defect called complex gastroschisis, where the baby's intestines grow outside the belly. Ten pregnant women will receive a fetoscopic procedure to put the intestines back inside and close the skin. The goal is to see if this approach reduces the risk of death and serious health problems after birth.
