Race against time: new test aims to get critically ill patients on the right antibiotics faster
NCT ID NCT05405491
Summary
This study is testing if using a faster PCR test can help doctors choose the most effective antibiotic sooner for immunocompromised patients in the ICU who develop pneumonia while on a ventilator. Currently, doctors must wait days for test results, often starting patients on broad antibiotics. Researchers are comparing the faster test to standard care to see if it leads to more patients receiving targeted, appropriate treatment within 24 hours.
