Race against time: faster test aims to target deadly pneumonia in ICU

NCT ID NCT05405491

Summary

This study is testing if a faster PCR test can help doctors choose the right antibiotic treatment sooner for vulnerable, immunocompromised patients in the ICU who develop pneumonia while on a ventilator. Currently, doctors must wait days for test results, often starting patients on broad antibiotics. This trial compares the new fast-test strategy to standard care to see if it leads to more targeted treatment within 24 hours.
