Sweat and surgery: new hope for fighting nerve pain in obesity

NCT ID NCT03617185

Summary

This study tested whether high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or weight-loss surgery could help prevent or control nerve damage (neuropathy) in people with severe obesity. 140 patients from a weight-loss surgery clinic were randomly assigned to either a supervised HIIT exercise program or standard exercise advice and followed for two years. Researchers measured nerve health through skin biopsies, eye scans, and various pain and function tests to see if these lifestyle changes made a difference.
