New numbing shot aims to slash pain after spine surgery

NCT ID NCT07174440

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a numbing injection called an erector spinae plane (ESP) block can better control pain after lumbar spine fusion surgery. About 32 adults will receive the injection before surgery, and researchers will track their pain scores and how much pain medicine they need for four days after. The goal is to see if this approach improves recovery and reduces reliance on narcotics.
