Heart fat may predict bypass success in diabetics

NCT ID NCT03360981

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looked at 150 people with coronary artery disease who had bypass surgery, comparing those with and without diabetes. Researchers measured the fat around the heart (epicardial fat) and checked if it could predict death or heart problems. They also tested if a diabetes drug called incretin could reduce this fat and improve outcomes. The goal was to better understand why diabetics often have worse results after bypass.
