Summary

This study tests whether a green tea extract called EGCG can lower the risk of liver cancer in people with liver cirrhosis. Researchers will measure changes in a blood-based risk score to see if EGCG reduces cancer risk.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a green tea extract

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, natural supplement to help prevent liver cancer in people with cirrhosis.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial testing a biomarker, not cancer itself. The supplement may not reduce actual cancer risk, and side effects are possible.
