Can a balloon pump help heart patients breathe easier off ECMO?

Summary
This study tests whether adding an intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) to standard VA-ECMO support helps more patients with cardiogenic shock successfully wean off ECMO within 30 days. About 430 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either ECMO alone or ECMO plus IABP. The goal is to improve heart recovery and reduce the need for more advanced heart devices or transplants.
