Double shock strategy for AFib: a promising idea that ran out of steam
NCT ID NCT03943693
First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study compared using two quick electric shocks versus the usual single shock to try to restore a normal heart rhythm in people with atrial fibrillation who have factors that make a single shock less likely to work, such as obesity or lung disease. Only 5 people took part before the study was stopped early, so we cannot draw firm conclusions. The goal was to see if the dual-shock approach could safely and effectively stop the abnormal rhythm.
