Summary
This study looked at whether a diet low in salt and rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (the DASH diet) could prevent heart failure in 71 Veterans with high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome. Participants followed the diet and were monitored for changes in artery stiffness and heart structure. The goal was to find a simple, non-drug way to reduce heart failure risk in a vulnerable population.
