First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at how two different diets affect people with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a rare liver disease. Twenty adults were randomly assigned to follow either a vegan/low-sulfur diet or the specific carbohydrate diet for 8 weeks. Researchers measured changes in gut bacteria and a liver enzyme called alkaline phosphatase to see if diet could influence disease activity.
