Can a DASH diet change your gut bugs and help you lose weight?
NCT ID NCT03924778
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Sep 18, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study will give 28 women with obesity either a calorie-restricted DASH diet or a standard American diet for 4 weeks. Researchers will track weight changes and analyze stool samples to see how diet affects gut bacteria and related health markers. The goal is to understand how race and diet interact with gut microbes to find better ways to prevent and treat obesity.

- DASH diet
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could point toward tailored diet plans that help prevent or treat obesity by targeting gut microbes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small pilot study (28 people) over just 4 weeks, so results may not apply to everyone or lead to long-term changes.
