Fatty liver study tests Insulin-Lowering drug to uncover disease roots

NCT ID NCT05729282

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 38 times

Summary

This study tested whether a drug called diazoxide, which lowers high insulin levels, can help researchers understand how fatty liver disease develops. Twenty-four adults with overweight or obesity and insulin resistance took either a low or high dose of diazoxide or a placebo for two weeks. Researchers measured changes in blood sugar, insulin, and fat levels to see how reducing insulin affects the liver's handling of sugar and fat.
