Breath and blood tests may replace hospital asthma diagnosis for kids

NCT ID NCT07011394

First seen May 14, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether two simple, non-invasive tests—a breath test (FeNO) and a blood test (eosinophil count)—can accurately diagnose asthma in children aged 6 to 17. Currently, diagnosing asthma often requires a hospital-based breathing challenge test that is hard to access. The study will involve 123 children with asthma-like symptoms but unclear initial lung function tests. If successful, these easier tests could speed up diagnosis and treatment in primary care settings.
